Assurant Health: Our View on Healthcare Reform
Assurant Health strongly believes it's critical that we take action on healthcare reform. Any reform effort must be a shared responsibility between hospitals, physicians, consumers, pharmaceutical companies, durable medical equipment companies, health insurers and policy makers - who work collectively to provide coverage for all Americans.
We strongly believe that everyone must have access to high quality, affordable health care regardless of their income or health status. This includes a competitive marketplace that creates a number of options so that consumers can find a health plan that best meets their needs.
It is also essential that any reform measures take into account the information needs of consumers. The government must acknowledge the vital role that health insurance agents play as educators and trusted advisors. Providing consumers with less information and decreased decision-making support in an effort to save costs is not the answer.
In fact, a recent survey commissioned by Assurant Health revealed that consumers, by nearly 3-to-1, are more satisfied and feel better informed when talking to an agent rather than shopping and buying health insurance online.
Americans deserve a better health care system and that is why Assurant Health continues to participate in efforts to improve health care in the United States.
