Don Hamm, President and Chief Executive Officer, Assurant Health

Don Hamm became President of Assurant Health in September 2002 and Chief Executive Officer in January 2003. Don has a long history with the company. Starting in 1982, he served as Chief Information Officer while also heading up health operations and the Small Group department. He then worked as a principal with William M. Mercer, a consultant with Tillinghast Towers Perrin and Vice President of the Southeast Region for Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Wisconsin. He rejoined Assurant Health in 1999 as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.

Don has a bachelor's degree in actuarial science from Drake University and a master's degree in health care management from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee (UWM). He is a Fellow in the Society of Actuaries (FSA), a member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA) and a Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI).

Don serves on the Executive Committee of America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) and is active in the community, serving on the board of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and the Greater Milwaukee Committee. He is also an advisory council member of the UWM School of Business and was the 2006 Co-Chair of the Health Division for the United Way Workplace Giving Campaign.

Scott Krienke, Senior Vice President, Individual Markets, Assurant Health

Scott Krienke chairs the Individual Markets Business Board, and is responsible for the product lines growth, profit, products and integration of key issues affecting the line within the overall organization. Scott joined the company in 1984 and previously served as Vice President — Human Resources as well as Vice President — Claims and Customer Service. Scott led the development of the Medical Savings Account and Health Savings Account Products, the first of its type to be marketed in the U.S. Prior to joining Assurant Health, Scott worked for Northwestern National Insurance Company.

Scott holds a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Marquette University and holds the FLMI and ALHC designations. Scott is on the Board of The Counseling Center of Milwaukee, Inc

Mike Kellen oversees a robust development area within Assurant Health to capitalize on unique opportunities for long-term profitable growth. Mike and his team are focused on the company’s Voluntary MartSM suite of products, additional market adjacencies, mergers and acquisitions, as well as the exploration and testing of other new market opportunities.

In his previous role as Senior Vice President — Group Markets, he oversaw the entire Group Markets area, including sales, actuarial, underwriting and marketing. Prior to joining Assurant in 1999, Mike spent over 20 years with Northwestern Mutual, Washington National and Mutual of Omaha. Experiences included block acquisitions and business start-ups in Japan and the UK in addition to Individual Medical and Small Group actuarial and product line activities in the United States.

Mike has been an active participant in the small group rating and access reform debate since its inception and has been active in speaking with industry groups, as well as state and federal legislators and regulators on these and related issues.

Mike Norderhaug, CLU, ChFC, Vice President, Sales Strategy, Assurant Health

In his role as Vice President, Sales Strategy, Mike Norderhaug oversees the development of additional enhancements to the technological innovations that support the independent agents who market Assurant Health products nationwide. He is also responsible for further supporting agents with strategic marketing initiatives, including proprietary lead distribution, maximizing the revenue opportunities of large call center insurance agencies and developing opportunities within the company’s Regional Sales Director Channel.

Mike has held various sales executive roles at Assurant Health over the past 15 years. In his previous role as Regional Sales Vice President, he oversaw the company’s Regional Sales Manager and the Managing General Agent distribution channels. Prior to joining Assurant Health, he spent 13 years at Lutheran Brotherhood. Mike has earned the insurance industry designations, CLU and ChFC.
